About

The Newark Symphonic Winds, under the musical direction of Richard Wong, is comprised of 50 amateur, semi-professional and professional musicians – ranging in age from talented Junior High School students to senior citizens. The NSW was established in February 2005 through the efforts of the then Newark Memorial High School instrumental music teacher and community members. The NSW was incorporated as a nonprofit [501(c)(3)] symphony on March 14, 2006. The NSW was established to provide the Tri-City area with free, high-level symphonic music. In doing so, we provide five free concerts per year for our communities and have given area musicians the opportunity to develop their skills and expand their musical horizons.

The NSW also works to support and expand Arts and Music programs in our area schools. We strongly believe that instruction in the Arts, and specifically Music programs, forms an integral component of a well-rounded and comprehensive education that the young people in our communities deserve. Importantly, NSW musicians have been the source of musical instructors for our local elementary instrumental musical education program since its inception.
